The Science Museums and Archives Consortium is delighted to announce the 2017 Open Call for proposals for AHRC-funded Collaborative Doctoral Awards to be supported through our Collaborative Doctoral Partnership.
As part of a new, streamlined, application process this year, the Science Museum Group is holding two workshops in July.
The three northern museums of the partnership – the National Railway Museum, the National Science and Media Museum, and the Museum of Science and Industry – are holding a joint workshop at the National Railway Museum in York on Friday 14th July 2017. The Science Museum, along with other partners, is hosting a similar session on Tuesday 25th July 2017.
The aim of the workshops is for interested academics and researchers to meet SMG colleagues and enable them to start developing research ideas together.
We encourage applications on any topic in contemporary and historical curatorial, conservation, audience and/or learning research that address the collections, current interests and programme priorities of the SMAC Consortium. As part of the lead-up to the workshop, each museum will produce a briefing document outlining their research interests and how these relate to their upcoming public events schedules. in the workshop itself we will start to develop collaborative research ideas which can then be further worked up between potential collaborators for submission on 24 September.
For background please find attached the 2017 Open Call and a workshop outline. We will develop a specific workshop programme once we know who will attend.
Interested participants, be they potential HEI supervisors, Science Museum Group members of staff or interested students, are welcome to attend. The northern workshop will run between 10.30 and 16.00 on Friday 14th July 2017 in the NRM’s conference suite at the museum in York, whilst the southern one will be held between 10.30 and 16.00 on Tuesday 25th July 2017 at the Science Museum’s Dana Research Centre.
