I should first introduce myself. I'm Publisher of Macmillan Collector's Library, a classics imprint at Pan Macmillan UK. The books are beautifully produced, pocket sized hardcover classics. Launched just a year ago, by the end of this year we'll have 150 books in print spanning fiction, nonfiction, drama, poetry, children's books and short stories.
For early 2019 I’m planning to publish a collection of poetry by John Keats and I’m looking for a willing expert on Keats to compile the anthology and to write an introduction of approximately 2500 words to accompany it in return for an appropriate fee. Neil Ramsey has very kindly agree to send my email out to members of the British Association of Romantic Studies.
Macmillan Collector’s Library is not an academic classics imprint, rather it's aimed at the general reader and as you will see from the attached images, the books are very appealing physically. So I'm looking for someone who is able to convey the life of the poet and discuss his writing in a very accessible way. The aim of our introductions is to both enthuse and inform our readers. In terms of the poetry selection, it should appeal to those who are already fans of Keats work and also to those coming new to it. It’s very likely that this book will be given as a gift by many purchasers.
In terms of timing, in order to publish in February 2019 I’d ideally need;
Delivery of the introduction - mid April 2018
Delivery of the list of poems to be included - mid January 2018
There's certainly leeway on the latter date and I'm prepared to move the publication date if needs be, my main concern is to find someone right to put the volume together.
In terms of extent, I envisage quite a slim volume of approx. 300 pages in total in our pocket size format. I'm attaching a pdf of our recently published Poems by Thomas Hardy so you can get an idea of how many words fit on the page.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this email and do please contact me directly if this project is of interest to you. My email is [log in to unmask]
