Dear all,

I'm delighted to announce that we're recruiting for a new, 0.6 FTE permanent colleague in folk and traditional music. PLEASE PASS THIS ON to anyone who might be interested. It would be great to hear from some singers who were interested in a long term fit with our institution.

Salary:
Grade F: £29,301 - £38,183 (pro rata)
Grade G: £39,324 - £46,924 (pro rata)

Closing Date: 23 August 2017

The International Centre for Music Studies (ICMuS) at Newcastle University wishes to appoint a 0.6 FTE Lecturer in Folk and Traditional Music on a permanent contract to make a significant contribution to our collective research and teaching. This is an open, international search, and we are interested in appointing someone with research interests that would flourish in our highly plural research culture and who has interests in traditional or folk music of the British Isles or Ireland in an increasingly global and digitally connected world. We are especially interested in hearing from candidates with expertise in traditional music or song and are seeking to appoint an established individual who has a strong track record of performance and/or research and who may be capable of working across the textual and practical musical domains.

You will have a Good first degree and PhD in Music or equivalent professional recognition and experience. The successful candidate will be able to show excellence as both a teacher and performer/researcher, with a portfolio of first rate outputs (in any form).

This post is tenable from September 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Candidates may contact Dr Simon McKerrell (Head of Music), for informal discussion prior to making an application ([log in to unmask], tel: 0191 208 5609).

Further information about the School of Arts and Cultures and Fine Art is available on their respective web sites at: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/sacs/

Please be advised that due to a new minimum salary threshold of £30,000 per annum imposed by the UKVI, this post may not qualify for University sponsorship under Tier 2 of the points based system

The University holds a silver Athena SWAN award in recognition of our good employment practices for the advancement of gender equality, and the University holds the HR Excellence in Research award for our work to support the career development of our researchers. We are also a member of the Euraxess network.

all the best,

Simon McKerrell,
(Head of Music, International Centre for Music Studies, Newcastle University, UK.)
