Thanks, Sean: that is good news.
Sadly, the remainder of the story is less encouraging:
"The number of pupils taking German GCSE has fallen the most of all
modern foreign languages, with entries to German dropping by 12 per cent
this year, compared with French at 10 per cent and Spanish three per cent.
Experts have also estimated that thousands more MFL teachers will be
needed to deliver the government’s target of having 90 per cent of
pupils studying the EBacc in 2020. The government has today confirmed it
is pushing this commitment back to 2025."
