Calling academics with chronic illness!
I am seeking pitches for a special section of The Sociological Review blog to coincide with the new academic year.
The section will be a space in which chronic illness within academia (not confined to the social sciences) is made visible by those who live with it. Themes will range from personal narratives and autoethnography, to the impact of illness on research and writing, to stories about alternative working methods and relationships both successful and otherwise, to reflections on how academia colludes in - but also offers potential challenge to - the production of ‘the normal’.
In addition to 800-1000 word blog posts (see TSR’s guidelines here: https://www.thesociologicalreview.com/blog/write-for-us/), participants are invited to explore creative methods that also reflect necessarily different ways of working with chronic illness. This might include voice recordings, short films, photo essays, etc.
Please submit 150-200 word pitches to [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>, copying in [log in to unmask], by Friday 18th August. Selected participants will be asked for final submissions by mid-September. Please share this call within your networks. Looking forward to hearing from you!
