Dear Colleagues
We have just reopened the call for the second Science Communication Chair, i.e. my future colleague to join me in coordinating our research and teaching activities.
This is a lifetime-tenure Full Professorship. If the new colleague is 49 years or younger, s/he will additionally become a civil servant. Profs at German universities of applied sciences offer up to 18 hours of teaching per week. Depending on the amount of research (and several other activities), this load is reduced significantly.
Rhine-Waal is Germany's first fully international university. All of the degree programmes in our faculty are in English. 80% of our students are international. For the time being, we have the great privilege to offer our courses without asking for tuition-fees, which enables young people from meanwhile more than a hundred different countries to study with us. This diversity also guides our approach in research and teaching: being comparative about the different systems of science, media, policy, etc.
I am aware that numerous people on this mailing list have already applied last year for this position, and I am most grateful for the exciting exchange we had with so many dedicated colleagues from almost all continents. Allow me to explain what seems to have been the challenge in finding the right fit for this particular university chair. The future professor is expected to have both the usual standing in social science scholarship and substantial practical experience in science communication.
If you have questions about the official call >> http://bit.ly/SCR-17-7 << please don't hesitate to ask. I will also be at Cheltenham Science Festival, a field trip with a dozen of my students, Thurs-Sat, in case you'd like to get in touch directly. I will also be at SiP in Sheffield (our session is on Tuesday), yet N.B. that the deadline will have passed by then. ;-)
Applications by 26th June 2017 to our HR department.
Our campus is located in the heart of Europe, right on the border between The Netherlands and Germany, half-way between Amsterdam and Cologne, or Brussels and Munster, at the foot of Cleves castle. There are direct low-cost flight from Edinburgh, Luton, and Stansted to our regional airport ("NRN"), ca. 20 mins from campus.
Best wishes
Alex
