Hi David/all,
ATRISK Soil SSVs are generic assessment criteria modelled using CLEA v1.071 and are based on the principles of minimal risk toxicology as set out in Environment Agency guidance. They are published to provide regulators and industry with an expanded and updated set of screening criteria.
We have undertaken our own reviews of contaminant toxicology - the latest batch comprising 10 compounds, by reviewing the most recent studies and, where required, consulting with qualified toxicologists to determine an appropriate health criterion value. For some contaminants therefore the toxicological decision may differ from that of the LQM S4ULs. We have an ongoing programme of reviews to keep our toxicological decisions as up to date as possible.
For C4SL contaminants, we have published these at 1% SOM sand soil type for each of the land uses (excluding allotments). Where the C4SL toxicology review has identified an appropriate minimal risk level we have also adopted and published this as an alternative 'minimal risk' option.
The regulatory underpinning of GACs and the use of them in the context of Part2A is set out in the 2012 Contaminated Land Statutory Guidance.
If you have any specific queries on the ATRISK SSVs, please use the contact form on the website or email me directly - this will make it much easier for me to collate queries and update our FAQ as appropriate so that everyone can see the responses.
Kind regards,

Dear List,
How do these relate to "minimal risk" S4ULs?
Are they still based on LLTC? and therefore for Part 2A uses only?
Cheers David E Jackson
