I agree that it is a lot of work. On the other hand, I don't think that
anyone not in the know at any time before the announcement would have
bet any money at all at any odds on a startup company (though with old
hands on deck), or anyone else for that matter, porting VMS to x86! An
ABBA reunion (or even a Beatles reunion) was more probable! This use to
be the pipe dream of VMS enthusiasts (not because of the x86, but
because it would get VMS on a commodity chip: VAX was popular in its
day, as was Alpha (for a while the fastest processor int he world);
Itanium was meant to be, but it didn't happen). Since VSI did mention
that "updating the compilers" is one of their projects, there is at
least some hope.
