interested students can apply for admission to our 2-year HCI M.Sc. at BUW
In our technically-oriented and English-language Human-Computer Interaction Master of Science programme, students focus on theoretical and practical issues in current Computer Science research in interface design and interactive system development. Obligatory modules address issues of technical system development for novel interactive systems, as well as issues related to usability, user research and conceptual development for HCI. This programme further offers the opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary projects and to attend courses from other study programs, such as Media Art and Design, Architecture, and other courses from the Faculty of Art and Design.
Following the Bauhaus educational principles, project-oriented learning makes out a big part of studies, and students will have to do two larger projects (semester long) before embarking on their final theses project.
HCI graduates can work both in software development, in particular in conception and development of novel interface technologies, and in the area of usability and user research. Our unique project-based study approach provides graduates with a skill set that qualifies them both for research and industry careers.
Applicants do need solid knowledge in core Computer Science concepts and practical programming skills due to the technical focus of our program. We especially welcome applicants with an interdisciplinary background combining technical knowledge with psychology or design and related topics.
Weimar is a great place to live and study with moderate living costs. It’s a moderate-size city that is easily traversable on foot and bike, and set in beautiful surroundings close to the Thuringia forest hills with many parks in the area (and close to Uni). It has a rich history (Weimar Republic, Goethe and Schiller, the Bauhaus) and vibrant student-friendly cultural scene and musical scene (Franz Liszt University of Music in town).
