The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames is an area rich in history and Kingston Heritage Service seeks an enthusiastic, capable and forward thinking Local History Officer to join the team. Based at the Kingston History Centre, the Local History Officer will be responsible for the day to day operations of the History Centre, the management of the local history collections, and will actively promote the local history of the area.
We require someone with excellent customer service skills and experience of working in a busy research room. The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of collections management of local history collections which comprise of books, pamphlets and other publications, maps, photographs, newspapers, and other small published and photographic deposits. This role will require you to work closely with the Assistant Archivist, Borough Archivist and Curators on collections management projects.
You must be able to balance collections management, public facing duties and meet deadlines in a flexible, well-organised and methodical way. You will be confident working with a range of ICT packages, including Microsoft Office, Google applications, social media platforms and Collections Management Software, such as CALM. You will be an effective communicator and work to build relationships both internally across the Heritage Team, Council, and the wider community.
You will be required to work within a bi-weekly rota, covering Tuesday – Friday with alternate Saturday working.
