Seminar: 6th July 2017
Seven Ways in which Archives Help Authors
Dr. Gordon Jackson will talk about how a discovery of his deceased father's diary and paperwork from the Second World War led him to combine archival research with his fathers narrative in a forthcoming book.
Born in Japan, educated in England, Dr Jackson' first job was at the Union Carbide research and development facility in upstate New York. After setting up and running a computer consultancy for 33 years he moved to Virginia in 2013, where he now teaches at ECPI University. However, 2 years before the move, the world of archival research beckoned, when Gordon made the surprising discovery in his fathers belongings.
International archival research has provided additional substantive materials for a historical narrative about how Dr Jackson's father, a Japanese citizen of samurai heritage, helped the allied forces win World War II.
