The Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Research Unit (NMAHP RU) is a national research unit based at both Glasgow Caledonian University and University of Stirling, which is core funded by the Chief Scientist Office of Scottish Government Health Directorates. NMAHP RU staff members number around 45, including seven Professorial staff, who have a variety of diverse backgrounds (nursing, midwifery, allied health professions, sociology, psychology, statistics), and have expertise in delivering ground-breaking research of relevance to NMAHP practice which impacts on the health of the Scottish population and beyond. Current research activity numbers around forty substantial research projects and programmes, split 50:50 between NMAHP RU staff as lead investigators or co-investigators, with funding from NIHR, HTA and CSO, amongst others. All of this work requires multi-disciplinary teams and mostly contains a significant statistical element requiring input from a statistician at all stages (study design, conduct of study, analyses and reporting).
The main purpose of the role is to act as statistician on the Unit’s trial and data linkage projects, with supervision from the Senior Statistician.
The post-holder will be based at Glasgow Caledonian University, but will have a cross-Unit role, involving regular meetings at the Unit’s University of Stirling offices.
Essential requirements for the role are: a degree and post-graduate degree in a relevant subject area with a substantial applied statistics component; experience using a range of statistical software packages to analyse data arising from randomised controlled trials, data linkage studies and routine data. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team; have excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, general computer skills and verbal and written communication skills.
