TWO DAY COURSE ON EARLY PHASE DOSE FINDING METHODS
Dates: 15th-16th November 2017
Venue: London Mathematical Society, Russell Square, London. WC1B 4HS.
Faculty: Dr. Adrian Mander, Dr. Alexia Iasonos, Prof. John O’Quigley, Dr. Graham Wheeler
The methodology of early phase clinical trials has changed dramatically over the last twenty years. Over the last five years it has changed as much again with new methods needed to deal with very complex situations.
The purpose of this course, aimed at statisticians working in the pharmaceutical industry and in clinical research groups, is to provide a critical review and practical guidance into the design of early phase studies in 2017. We cover several current methods, such as the CRM, EWOC, mTPI, CCD, TITE-CRM and BOIN as well as interrelationships between these designs. The main theoretical ideas are discussed and emphasis is placed on implementation and concrete operational characteristics. We now have a rich experience of the clinical application of methods such as the continual reassessment method (CRM) and we discuss all of the lessons learned so far.
The four presenters; Adrian Mander, Alexia Iasonos, John O'Quigley and Graham Wheeler all have extensive experience in the design, analysis and practical implementation of these new designs. A key feature of the course is to allow time for discussion and time to interact with the faculty. Participants are encouraged to raise issues related to their own specific trials since, almost always, any problems encountered are more than likely to be encountered by others.
