Based in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), you will help form a crucial part of our work. As a government department, we are delivering industrial strategies while also shaping policy agendas for energy and climate change, incorporating business and science. As such we are seeking innovative Economists, Operational Researchers, Social Researchers and Statisticians who will assist with policy making decisions. Seeing the policy through its entire cycle – from option appraisals through to policy evaluations – your findings will help define the success of the UK’s international interactions.
This is an incredibly exciting challenge, with opportunities across various key areas. You’ll also have scope to work on, industrial strategies, science and innovation investment, the development of the modern economy, and so much more. Based in the Business and Science Group, the International, Growth & Analysis Group, the Energy & Security Group or the Market Frameworks Group, your findings will therefore shape the success of the UK economy and industry both now and in the future – so these roles really do have the scope to be career-defining.
You will lead the analysis and research in a specific area, providing all of the information, data and models needed to support the policy you are working on. As such, you will have strong analytical experience, with the capability to form excellent working relationships with ministers, policy leads, plus external research stakeholders. If you have experience of policy related analysis, that would be beneficial but isn’t strictly essential. What is essential is that you have the leadership skills needed to manage junior analysts, and the following qualifications relevant to the role you are applying for:
Statisticians: A degree (minimum 2:2) in a numerate discipline such as mathematics, economics, psychology or geography (incorporating some formal statistical training); or a postgraduate degree in a subject containing formal statistical training or; or experience to the same level as a foundation degree/HND (Level 5).
