Newcastle University is advertising for a Reader or a (Full) Professor in Linguistics:
http://bit.ly/SeniorLingxAcademic_NclU
The application deadline is 31 July 2017, and we would like the successful candidate to start at Newcastle on 1 January 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The successful candidate will be able to be based in any of the three Schools at Newcastle which have Linguistics as part of their remit: the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences; the School of English Language, Literature and Linguistics; or the School of Modern Languages. I am in the School of Modern Languages, and count myself fortunate to be at one of the universities that takes modern language linguistics most seriously in the UK, but I work extensively with people in both of the other Schools as well.
The post is at one of the two most senior ranks In the UK academic system-what the UK calls Professor is equivalent to Full Professor in North America; what the UK calls Reader is the rank below that, but still senior. There isn't really a North American direct equivalent. This is a re-advertisement of the position that was advertised in January 2017.
All applications have to go through the online system linked above-but I am certainly willing to be in touch with people who are considering applying, to talk about linguistics at Newcastle. Just get in touch.
