Hi James
I was involved in the "Albums" http://www.tate.org.uk/art/albums/ feature of the Tate collection which I think you're aware of.
It's probably possible to mangle out the number of public albums and users from
http://www.tate.org.uk/art/albums/list
Or someone from Tate might jump in and say how its going.
I've got to say that it was hard and complex building this and I probably wouldn't do it again when there is Pinterest, We Heart It, Pinboard, Delicious(?!?), ffffound (RIP) and a host of other social bookmarking tools available some of which specialise in image content.
Side note: for those who don't know, you can look up what things are in Pinterest from your collection as in this example:

Happy to chat further in person if you like.

PS. As a bonus nice tip for you all, you can also get Wikipedia to output all their links to your sites as in this example
