Bournemouth University plans to organize a three-day summer school on “Human Factors in Systems Safety and Security” led by Dr. Neetesh Saxena from Wednesday 5 - Friday 7 July 2017.
Who can attend and what will be delivered?
This event will bring together young students, researchers, industry practitioners, academicians and other security professionals with an interest in security and privacy, the role of human factors in cyber security and understanding minds and activities of the cyber criminals. Attendance at this event will improve the understanding of human factor and its related safety and security in different systems. There will be case studies, research problem understanding, research results and takeaways presented from different domains, such as human factor roles, digital forensics, understanding attackers, user role in different networks, user-centric security, smart vehicles and applications of machine learning in security.

There will be academic, social and professional career benefits of attending this summer school. The summer school will brush up on complex security aspects and will provide a platform to learn about the latest technological advancements and research developments. If you are not an IEEE member, you can visit https://www.ieee.org<https://www.ieee.org/> to join (IEEE student membership cost: US$27; new student member 50% discount, and IEEE SMCS student membership cost: US$6). The event registration provides partial financial support to the SMC Society members and we encourage participants to join, if they are not already members. The SMC Society conducts various activities and events. The event will highlight information about the three IEEE Transactions on SMC, IEEE SMC magazine and IEEE SMC conference.
Prospective participants can apply to Dr. Neetesh Saxena for financial support to cover partial expenses (up to 25 places available). If you are not an IEEE and SMCS student member, and your application got successful, we will reimburse you £15 (equivalent to $19.50 for each new IEEE and SMCS student member) when you attend this summer school. If you are an existing IEEE and SMCS student member, and your application got successful, we will reimburse you £25 (equivalent to $33 for each existing IEEE and SMCS student member) when you attend this school. If a professional member applies for the waiver and qualifies for it, he/she will still need to pay the difference of the registration fee (SMC member and non-member will pay £70 and £130, respectively).
What will be provided?
The registration fee includes delegate pack, participation certificate, refreshments and lunch, and a coach shuttle from Bournemouth to the university campus. Note, your accommodation is not covered in the registration. The university has preferential rates with a number of local hotels, please quote Bournemouth University when booking to access these rates.
