Papers are invited for a workshop on art and human rights, which will be held at the Centre of Latin American Studies at the University of Cambridge on the 20th June 2017. The workshop will be accompanied by a pop-up exhibition of Chilean arpilleras.
The workshop seeks to explore the extraordinary role that art can play in the process of peacebuilding. In contexts in which war, migration and state-perpetrated violence have left painful legacies of collective trauma, the multivalence of the art object can not be overestimated. Art and museum exhibitions are uniquely placed to intersect the public space and facilitate commemoration and dialogue.
Papers are invited, which explore the topic in the broadest sense as well as papers which explore the work of individual artists.
