Hi David,
We've used the following wording in our current RDM Policy:
"research data must be kept for a minimum of 10 years following project completion, with the recognition that a longer retention period may be specified by third parties
http://www.lshtm.ac.uk/research/researchdataman/rdm_policy.html#principle05
Examples of 3rd party requirements could include the MRC's 20 year retention requirement for population health research, EPSRC's 10 year since last access requirement, the Lancet's expectation that raw data should be provided up to 10 years following publication, and evolving expectations for clinical research.
Regards,
Gareth

Subject: Research Data Retention - Professional bodies and Journals?
Hello Everyone,
**Apologies for cross-posting**
Could I pose this inquiry to the list?
In relation to research data retention, has anybody addressed the issue of professional bodies or journals stipulating that research data should be retained for set periods? Have you mentioned this possible obligation in your RDM policy?
This requirement, of course, would run concurrently with funder retention policies as well as any Institutional document retention policy.
I've tried to find some specific time periods on various Journal (content providers) websites, but have encountered a paucity of information.
If anybody else has had more success and would be willing to share, I'd be most grateful.
Many thanks for your help.
David
