The BFI Media Conference is a unique event for teachers of film and media at 16+ and in HE, bringing together an exciting mix of new and creative ideas from the worlds of the media industries, teaching and research.
INDUSTRY highlights include plenary guests Jay Hunt (Chief Creative Officer, Channel 4) and Gurinder Chadha OBE (Director, Writer, Producer VICEROY’S HOUSE, BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM…) as well as speakers from the BBC and independent TV production, Altitude Film Distribution on Moonlight and Lady Macbeth (pictured), Criterion Games on Star Wars: Battlefront – Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission, Criterion Games plus independent film production, marketing and music video.
RESEARCH sessions include our Education plenary guest David Gauntlett, plus Jakob Stougaard-Nielsen on ‘Nordic Noir in the UK’, Angela Phillips on ‘News, Social Media and Young Consumers’ and Jessica Rees on Ofcom’s Study of 8-17-yr-olds, ‘Children’s Media Lives.’
TEACHING sessions include innovative approaches to theory and practical work, plus new ideas for finding resources, dissecting TV genre, exploring ideology with experimental film, and investigating whether what we know about fake news is true.
