CILIP NW Member Network are hosting a joint visit to the Liverpool Medical Institution followed by the Liverpool John Moores University Special Collections on Wednesday 24th May 9.30-12.30.
Liverpool Medical Institution (LMI) Library is one of the oldest medical libraries in the UK and holds some really interesting treasures.
The LMI book collections date back to the 16th century; with journals and instrument collections dating from the 18th century. The group will have a visit to the basement archive to see some of the oldest books and the collections’ storeroom. In the main library there will be further items from the collections to view and maybe some surprises!
To complete the visit there will be a tour of the 1837 building which will include the Council Room and Lecture Theatre. We will finish in the Orthopaedic Library on the first floor with a recently completed display of orthopaedic items and a Hugh Owen Thomas exhibition.
LMI collections include several editions by Vesalius and Ambroise Paré and so much more. Come and see what Liverpool has to offer in rare historical books.
The Special Collections and Archives at Liverpool John Moore University (LJMU) cover a wide range of topics from popular music and counter culture (e.g. England’s Dreaming: The Jon Savage Archive, Situationist Collection, and Barry Miles Archives) and Liverpool theatre and writing (The Everyman Theatre, Royal Court Theatre, Unity Theatre and Willy Russell Archives) to the history of fashion (Liddell Hart Collection), girl's comics (Femorabilia) and the history of LJMU.
Get a behind the scenes look at the collections, and see material never before exhibited.
