Dear UKSG Members,
We are looking to set up a UK University Library Advisory board and would welcome hearing from anyone in the UKSG group who works within a University Library who would be interested. If you are thinking about starting a University press, currently run a press, or would like to provide a publishing service within your library this group will be of interest to you. This will also be of interest to you if you are currently looking at alternative research funding models using new technology.
About the New Advisory Group
The platform was originally developed with major input from academics and today these academics are still user-testers, advisors and ambassadors for the site. To complement the formation of a new USA University based advisory board, Glasstree is keen to develop a UK advisory board within the UK University sector to work with them on helping to shape the platform against their current and future intuitional needs. There is no requirement to be a current user of the platform to be eligible to join the advisory board; we are interested in your advice and feedback as to the direction and functionality of the platform in supporting intuitional led publishing.
We recognise that time is of a premium so as a member of the advisory board you will be asked to participate in an email ‘advisory group email’ to share views and information and meetings will take place every few months online or via a half or full day seminar group at a host UK university (if the newly formed advisory group deem this to be appropriate). Meeting notes of the USA and UK advisory boards will be shared.
About the platform
Glasstree is a newly launched cloud based publishing and content dissemination platform, which also offers a non-obligatory complementary suite of services to the author (e.g peer review, indexing, copyediting, design, PR, and many more). The platform supports ebook, Open Access and print content, which can be sold via its own online bookshop or via global ebook and print book distribution channels with a high revenue return back to the academic/institution. The platform works with established industry bodies to ensure it offers the same services as a traditional publisher and fully supports bibliometrics.
Glasstree is able to offer University libraries looking to incorporate a publishing service as part of their service offering, as well as Universities wishing to set up their own independent publishing platform. There are no vendor contractual obligations to use the platform and it can be white labeled if required. As a cloud based platform there are no expensive installations or staff training time required and it can be operated with low staff overheads.
If you are interested in joining the advisory group or would like an exploratory conversation before deciding please contact Jean Roberts, Glasstree UK Business Development Director, details below:
