Hi
We are in the process of deciding yes/no on this membership and think it is a worrying precedent to be asked to pay for an authentication service which is very much industry standard.
Part of the membership also covered adding our own institutional branding, to identify to our students that this platform is being provided to them by the institution they are attending shouldn’t be something we should have to pay extra for.
I am going to query with Ingenta the liability around misuse, as one of our subscriptions and license team has flagged that in the licence, the liability of misuse seems to fall on us, so if a logged in shibb user was to do some bulk downloading what approach would Ingenta take?
As we would have at that point agreed to a license specifically for access purposes, would they ban the individual user, or the institution? Has anyone else queried this?
Thanks
Lee

Subject: [lis-e-resources] Ingenta connect Library Membership
Hello all,
I have just tried to update some of our authentication details on the Ingenta connect platform and have found that where we have previously had institutional authentication via shibboleth this is now only available if we take 'Library Membership' at an additional cost to our subscriptions.
This seems to have been introduced in late 2016 and I am not quite sure how/why we weren't made aware of it previously.
I would be interested to know on/off list experiences elsewhere - were you made aware of this change and have you decide for or against taking membership?
Many thanks,
Verity
