PhD student position (3 years) in decision making and spatial navigation (Center for Behavioral Brain Sciences, Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg)
Applications are invited for a 3-year PhD student position (public sector paygrade TV-L 13, 50%), jointly supervised by PD Dr Gerhard Jocham (Cognitive Neuroscience, Center for Behavioral Brain Sciences) and Dr Martin Riemer (Faculty of Medicine and German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases, DZNE) at the University of Magdeburg. The position is funded by the CBBS-Neuronetwork “Resolving complex decisions via planning and associative value generalisation”.
The project will apply magnetoencephalography (MEG) to investigate the neural dynamics underlying decisions in the navigational and reward-guided domain. We are seeking enthusiastic candidates with a strong interest in decision making and/or spatial cognition. You will have an MSc or equivalent degree in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field. The ideal candidate should also possess computer programming skills (e.g., Matlab, R, Python) and have prior experience with MEG/EEG analysis. You will be thorough, efficient, a good communicator and enjoy both working independently and as part of a dynamic team.
With several research-dedicated 3T and one 7T MRI scanners, MEG and EEG laboratories, a combined MRI-PET facility, and a large community of researchers, Magdeburg offers an outstanding and stimulating environment for cognitive neuroscience. Being embedded in the local neuroscience community, you will additionally benefit from the interactions with other leading experts in the departments of medicine, psychology and the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology.
For further information about this unique opportunity, please contact PD Dr Gerhard Jocham or Dr Martin Riemer, or visit the website (www.cns-jocham.de) to learn more about our research. Applications should include a CV, a brief statement of research experience and interests, academic achievements and names of at least 2 referees. Please send your application as a single pdf file to [log in to unmask] and [log in to unmask] The position is available immediately, but applications will be considered until the post is filled.
Applications from disabled persons will be given priority in the case of equal suitability, ability and professional expertise. The Otto von Guericke University aims to increase the proportion of women within the university and specifically encourages women to apply.
