Hello
Many thanks to everyone who responded to my request for help in converting audio cassette to digital format. I had a couple of recommendations for the EnVivo cassette convertor which is available from as little as £6.99 - as the cost is so low I have ordered one to try out the quality before deciding to commit to purchasing anything more expensive.
The following are other suggestions and advice I received:
• If the project is something you will do on your own and don't need to adjust parameters on playback that can be necessary on damaged / rare tapes, a cheerful solution may be something like this (not tested it, but a basic solution). https://www.amazon.co.uk/Portable-Cassette-Tape-Deck-Converter/dp/B003O43UII
• We bought something similar to this which works fine and goes for about £25:

• Two ION products were recommended ION tape to PC device https://www.ionaudio.com/products/details/tape-2-pc and https://www.ionaudio.com/products/details/duodeck
Both of these can be used in conjunction with Audacity open source software (http://www.audacityteam.org/. (as is the EnVivo Cassette Convertor)
