Dear all,
Lucy Bell and I are looking for an early career anthropologist to work with us on our AHRC research grant 'Precarious Publishing in Latin America'. The project involves the study of editoriales cartoneras (translated as “waste-picking publishers” or “cardboard publishers”) in Mexico and Brazil. As a research team, we'll examine cartoneras from literary and anthropological angles, with the aim of providing a better understanding of how new relations, communities and meanings are created by the transformation of recycled cardboard into low-cost books. This project thus offers the opportunity to carry out transnational, multi-disciplinary research on a fascinating, emerging socio-cultural phenomenon.
The post, based at the University of Surrey, is for 9 months and will focus on ethnographic research in Mexico City. The start date is 1 October 2017.
