Dear All,
Please see the below call for papers.
Best wishes,
Brendan, Richard and Geert
I am writing to ask if you can think of anyone who might be interested in taking part in a small one-day workshop that I am co-organising on 'Worker-Contractors: Refiguring low-level labour market intermediaries in contemporary India,' which will take place on July 7th at SOAS. Essentially, my co-organisers (Geert De Neve and Richard Axelby) and I are trying to bring together a small group of early-career ethnographers to discuss their work with a focus on the formation and working practices of low-level contractors, understood as key figures underpinning India's economic boom.
As someone who has worked on some of the issues we want to investigate, I thought you might have PhD students, former PhD students or other contacts who might be interested in this workshop. I have attached a call for papers for the workshop to this email.
We are also hoping some senior researchers such as yourself might be able to attend and ask questions or act as discussants, and we have secured funding for travel costs and food for all presenters and discussants travelling to us from within the UK or Europe. It would be fantastic if you were able to attend.
Unfortunately we have not secured funding to cover the costs of participants travelling to join the workshop from India, but we would of course be delighted if we could offer this. If you have any suggestions for funding we might be able to secure at short notice to help cover travel costs from India, and/or any suggestions for Indian participants who might already be in Europe at the time of the workshop, these would be gratefully received.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and feel free to pass this email on to anyone you think might be interested.
Warmly,
Brendan, Richard and Geert
