Zine stations: craft your way through AAG
Session: Wednesday 4.40, Commonwealth, Sheraton, Third Floor… and popping up throughout the AAG
This year in particular we feel the urgency to debate, and build solidarity in creative, generative ways. In addition to participating in panels and protests, we invite you to take part in our zine pop-up stations. These will be a place to get crafty, to share your thoughts and feelings in a creative way. Zines are intimate and political self-published works ‘easy to make and inexpensive to distribute’ (Downes , 2013). We especially hope that these stations will provide an opportunity to visually exchange experiences about the very geographies of academic space,—our struggles with them, recent or ongoing, and our dreams for what they may become. By the end of AAG we will distribute a collective zine comprising of your cut n’ pasted fragments. If you’re not up for crafting, we invite you to check out the collection of inspiring feminist zines (some designed by artists and Boston-based activists) which will be on display at our stations. And, if you have a zine that you’ve already crafted and would like to share, please get in touch.
