Dear Rich,
It seems that the compiled MEX files provided with SPM are not
compatible with R2017a and therefore need to be recompiled. Instructions
to do so are available here:
https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/SPM/Installation_on_64bit_Mac_OS_%28Intel%29#Compilation
I have just put a new compilation with R2017a on OSX 10.9.5 here:
http://www.fil.ion.ucl.ac.uk/spm/download/spm12_updates/
but it is based on the development version of SPM12 so you might have a
compatibility issue with r6906. I'll recompile again shortly.
The new compiled MEX files seem to run fine with older MATLAB versions
so they might be the ones provided with the next update of SPM12.
Best regards,
Guillaume.
