List members may be interested in a free event taking place at The Bluecoat in central Liverpool next Wednesday (from 4pm - 6pm). The event is an opportunity to discuss welfare reform ahead of the next round of reforms due to be rolled out from April.
It includes brief presentations from the following:
*representatives of the Dole Animators, a group who made a film about their experiences of welfare reform (see www.doleanimators.org )
* Cllr Jane Corbett of Liverpool City Council, who will discuss the city’s recent work on measuring the cumulative impact of welfare reform
*Phil McDuff, a social policy commentator and occasional Guardian columnist (see https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jan/06/spending-benefits-prosecco-feckless-poor-phillip-schofield )
*Ruth Patrick, (University of Liverpool) whose new book ‘For whose benefit? the everyday realities of welfare reform’ will be published on 12th April by Policy Press
The event will be chaired by Ros Wynne-Jones who writes a cuts column in the Daily Mirror, and has recently launched a project to revisit ‘The Road to Wigan Pier’.
