Hi Tom,

We're having similar issues. The new platform recognises our Proxy server when navigating within a single journal if we point the links to the "issue" page, but if you try and move anywhere else on the site it drops the Proxy information out of the URL.

I'm also having the exact same problem with the administration account. Their helpdesk's response was to send me a reset password link, which like you've experienced, says it has worked but then doesn't let me log in.

I've contacted our sales rep, the generic customer service team and the head of migration and had nothing much helpful in return (first emails sent by me in mid January).

Glad to hear it seems to be more general issues rather than something specific here, although it doesn't help us solve it at the moment.

Thanks,

Finlay

Subject: Institutional account problems on the new OUP platform

Hi All,

I've found quite a few snags with the new OUP platform, but the one causing me the most concern at the moment is the temperamental way it's recognising my institution. I sent them loads of screenshots last Monday (I've not heard anything back yet, but I appreciate they must be very busy!), so I won't bore you all with the details, but though it recognises from my IP address that I am from Aberystwyth University, but the institution name in the top right hand corner changes, confusingly, pretty much every time I sign in or out, or even just navigate to a different page - the institution displays as one or more of the following:

  *   Aberystwyth University

  *   University of wales aberystwyth

  *   University of Aberystwyth

  *   University College of Wales

  *   Periodicals Dept Library

  *   University of Wales, Aberystwyth

And there doesn't seem to be any logic to it.

I'm also hamstrung by the fact that our administrator account seems to have stopped working; when I try and reset the password, it seems to work successfully, but then when I try and log in using I get an error message telling me to check and try again.

This is probably my fault; I went through the pre-migration checklist a few times, but I probably missed something. And I'm sure at some point someone from OUP will get back to me and clear it up. But I'm just really curious to know if anybody else has had a similar problem?

Many thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

Thank you for sharing this - we thought we were alone. We have reported multiple issues to OUP since the start of February. OUP have said they are working on it but they are unable to give a timeframe for resolution.

Kind regards,

Hi,

Yes we have had similar problems. We have dropped of the WAYF then been reinstated, have been recognised as Queen Margaret University and Queen Margaret University College (we achieved university title over 10 years ago) depending on which page a reader was accessing. The technical support person I was dealing with thought that the difference might be explained by "multiple accounts with the same IP range" .

Subject: Re: Institutional account problems on the new OUP platform

Good afternoon, Tom --

The Highwire platform was more flexible in the way our Shibboleth profile could be allocated to all our OUP accounts. On the new platform federated access can only be configured against one account so I have a ticket open requesting the merger of around half a dozen accounts (and perhaps there are more). I don't think this situation came across on the migration documentation. As for access on a mobile device, I could not find a way to sign in to an institutional account, perhaps because of the problem mentioned above. Perhaps it requires personalisation or tethering (this advice may be http://www.oxfordjournals.org/en/jnlsmobile.html).

I did manage to get access to the administration section on a couple of the accounts (http://www.oxfordjournals.org/for_librarians/usage_stats.html) so I could try to obtain all the usage reports since the transition, prior to any merger into one master account. Again, Highwire was more flexible about obtaining usage for all subscriptions administered at our institution.

Kind regards,

Subject: Call for Proposals - NASIG Great Ideas Showcase and Snapshot Sessions

The NASIG Program Planning Committee (PPC) invites proposals for the Great Ideas Showcase and the Snapshot Sessions for the 32nd NASIG conference in Indianapolis, IN, June 8 to 11. The theme of the conference is "Racing to the Crossroads.”

The Great Ideas Showcase will be held on Friday, June 9, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., and the Snapshot Sessions will be held immediately after on Friday, June 9, from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. Presenters must be available to discuss their showcases or present their snapshots during that time.

The Great Ideas Showcase will provide an opportunity to share innovative ideas, new workflows, and new applications of technology in an interactive and informal setting. Great Ideas can be demonstrated in a variety of ways – posters, laptops, tablets, e-readers, etc. Participants will be given a table or poster board (3.5’ x 7.5’) to showcase their idea to attendees, depending on their need.

The Snapshot Sessions will consist of up to eight 5-minute presentations with a focus on an idea, project, workflow, etc. If you’ve always wanted to speak at NASIG, but haven’t felt like you had enough to say for a full session, this is a great opportunity for you.

Proposals may present a report of a research study, an analysis of a practical problem-solving effort, or a description of an innovative program that may be of interest to the NASIG community. Proposals should name any particular products or services that are integral to the content of the showcase or snapshot. However, as a matter of NASIG policy, showcases and snapshots should not be used as a venue to promote or attack any product, service, or institution.

Submit your Great Ideas Showcase proposal here:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NASIGGreatIdeas2017

Submit your Snapshot Session proposal here:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NASIGSnapshot2017

Proposals must be received by 5pm EST on Thursday, March 30, 2017. Members of the Program Planning Committee will evaluate abstracts, and presenters will be notified of the status of their proposal by mid-April. (Note: Presenters for the Great Ideas Showcase or Snapshot Sessions do not qualify for a registration discount. Presenters must be registered for either the full conference or for Friday single day registration.)

Inquiries may be sent to the NASIG PPC Chair and Vice-Chair, Steve Kelley and Violeta Ilik, at [log in to unmask]

We look forward to seeing you in Indianapolis!

Subject: Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries joins Portico

With apologies for cross-posting…

Portico and the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries (CSAL) today announced a historic 10-year consortium-wide agreement that brings all CSAL primary member libraries in as Portico participants.

By joining Portico, Swiss libraries and the communities they serve can be assured of enduring access to the academic e-journals and e-books they have invested in. The agreement covers the state universities in Switzerland, the Federal Institutes of Technology Domain, as well as the Universities of Applied Sciences and the Swiss National Library.

Dr. Rafael Ball, Library Director at ETH Zurich and project manager of CSAL said, “This ten-year collaboration...emphasizes the importance that Swiss Universities, the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology Domain, and other major research institutions have placed in adopting a nationwide strategy for the long-term preservation of e-resources. Securing continued and complete access to e-resources is fundamental for successful research and education in Switzerland. By concluding the license with Portico, we have reached a milestone.”

CSAL joins more than 900 other libraries from 21 countries that participate in Portico. In addition to the support of libraries, more than 400 publishers—representing over 2,000 societies and associations—participate in Portico. The Portico archive now holds 1.2 billion files, representing more than 470,000 e-books and 62 million articles from over 22,000 e-journals. More information is available at www.portico.org.

Subject: Re: Institutional account problems on the new OUP platform

Hi All,

Thanks for all the replies - it's good to know we are not alone. If OUP can get Coventry's logo wrong and place Bolton in Estonia, then I don't have that much to complain about! And the fact that so many of you are reporting problems explains why it's taking OUP so long to get back to us; they're probably swamped. Dom, it's interesting what you say about multiple accounts; as far as I was aware we only had one account, so perhaps in the migration they activated all our old accounts with anachronistic names, merged them with our proper account, and that's what causing the confusion. As for institutional log-in on mobile devices - well, that never worked for us on the old platform either, so no loss!

Hopefully OUP and I will be able to get this sorted soon.

Good luck everyone, and thanks again,

Tom

Dom Benson

Subject: [lis-e-resources] Institutional account problems on the new OUP platform

  *   Aberystwyth University

  *   University of wales aberystwyth

  *   University of Aberystwyth

  *   University College of Wales

  *   Periodicals Dept Library

  *   University of Wales, Aberystwyth

Tom
