The well-being of young people during their transition into work and adulthood
Research Assistant I/II, Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies & Department of Sociology and Social Policy (Post Ref.: 17/14/W)
Lingnan University, a distinctive liberal arts institution in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, is committed to the provision of quality whole-person education by combining the best of Chinese and Western liberal arts traditions. It strives to pursue excellence in teaching, learning, scholarship and community engagement. With three academic Faculties, it offers a wide range of undergraduate degree programmes in arts, business and social sciences. Lingnan’s liberal arts education is characterised by a broad-based interdisciplinary curriculum with specialised disciplinary studies; close student-staff relationship; a vibrant residential campus; ample global learning opportunities; active community engagement and multifarious workplace experience.
The Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies together with the Department of Sociology and Social Policy at Lingnan University have an international reputation in Sociology, Social Policy and Gerontology and are committed to extending its international contribution to theory development and knowledge transfer in these areas. A new research cluster, led by Professor Ka Ho Mok, Lam Man Tsan Chair Professor of Comparative Policy, has formed to explore how young people in Hong Kong and across Greater China and East Asia are experiencing their transition into work and adulthood in times of rising inequality, international competition and the changing valorization of higher education degrees. In particular, the research cluster aims to bring together youth studies, urban studies and research on the life course to reach a better understanding how increasingly extended, non-linear transitions are affecting young people’s well-being, happiness and life satisfaction.
The appointee is expected to assist the work of this new research cluster. Applicants should have a keen interest in academic research and will use this opportunity as preparation for further academic study and/or personal development to enhance her/his employability within the Hong Kong academy. Duration: 12 months fixed - full time.
