We invite applications for a Readership in the Centre for HCI Design (HCID) based in the Department of Computer Science at City, University of London. Originally established 25 years ago, HCID has a reputation as one of the largest and most successful HCI research groups in the UK. We also pride ourselves in delivering specialist Masters Courses and running a profitable consultancy service through the Interaction Lab. This is an exciting opportunity to join existing academic staff in undertaking world-class research and to help shape the future direction of HCID.
The successful candidate will have an established track record of research excellence as demonstrated by existing research funding and world-class publications. The post is open to applicants in any area aligned to HCID's activities, particularly in designing systems for real-world use that are informed by engaging with a variety of stakeholders, centred around innovative applications for embedding smart technology in everyday environments, novel ways of communicating with the user, new ways for a diverse range of users to access and retrieve information, and advanced technologies for healthcare. In addition to undertaking cutting-edge research in collaboration with HCID colleagues, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the HCID doctoral programme, and to teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
We are looking for a candidate with:
- a doctoral degree, normally a PhD,
- extensive track-record of research publications and research funding
- a proven ability to develop, implement and lead on research strategies, funding bids and projects,
- a track record in excellence in teaching, successful development of educational practices and innovation in curriculum development,
- evidence of making a significant contribution to the administration and general life and work of an academic institution, and wider academic community.
