Description of Institute:
Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) was founded in 1896 and is one of the highest-ranking universities in China with a world-class reputation. The School of Humanities (http://shss.sjtu.edu.cn/En) includes four categories of academic disciplines covering Chinese Language and Literature, History, Philosophy, and Arts. The School of Humanities has two undergraduate programs for disciplines of Chinese Language and Literature (Sino-foreign culture exchange) and Chinese Language (designed for overseas students); three undergraduate minor courses separately for Chinese Language and Literature, History, and Musicology; three Master degree programs separately for Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, and Philosophy; one professional Master degree program for International Chinese Language Education; two PhD degree programs for disciplines of comparative literature and cultural theory, and the Marxism. The total number of faculty and staff currently working in the School is 140 and there are 1700 students studying in the School. 

General requirements:
The School seeks to appoint two open rank academic positions at the level of Tenure-track Assistant Professor, Tenured Associate Professor or Full Professor. Responsibilities of the appointees will include teaching, research, thesis supervision, etc.

Applications for the positions mentioned above are open to scholars with a Ph.D. in Chinese language and literature, linguistics, history, philosophy or other relevant fields.

Duties and Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the successful candidates will include the following:

To undertake academic duties as required by the Head of School.
To contribute to the research vibrancy of the School and relevant research groups.
To develop and provide strategic research leadership in the subject field to which the appointee’s expertise belongs through high profile research activities and teaching.
To help deliver on the social renewal strategy pursued by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
To engage in high quality research and publication to secure a top research grading.
To provide leadership to attract research students and postdoctoral fellows.
To supervise/co-supervise graduate students in the appointee’s area of expertise.
To make significant contributions to the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate programs through program and curriculum development and personal teaching contributions.
To participate in initiatives to develop additional income streams through other activities that are consistent with the appointee’s areas of expertise.
To contribute to the development of the School’s interdisciplinary collaborations in the humanities.
To contribute to the development of the School’s international research and teaching collaborations in humanities.
