There are a few places remaining for the Arlis Visit to the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art Archive
6 March 2017, 2.30 – 4.30pm
Modern Two, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Belford Road, Edinburgh
The Art Library Society’s Committee for Art & Design Archives (CADA) invites you to a free guided tour of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art Archive.
The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art (part of the National Galleries of Scotland) was founded in 1960, and the archive and special books collection was intended initially to complement the SNGMA’s own collection. However, its scope has since expanded, and now includes over 130 collections of archive material relating to 20th and 21st century international and Scottish art and artists, as well as over 2500 special books.
Archivist Kirstie Meehan will present some of the highlights of the collection, including artist books by Pablo Picasso and Oskar Kokoschka, rare Dada and Surrealist publications and letters, photographs, fabrics and sketchbooks by Scottish artists including Ian Hamilton Finlay and Eduardo Paolozzi. There will also be tours of the Keiller Library (a dedicated space for showing archive and special books material) and the Eduardo Paolozzi Studio. There will also be the opportunity to view the current exhibition Joan Eardley: A Sense of Place, in which a significant amount of letters, photographs and publications from the Archive is displayed.
Places are limited and booking is essential. Please email Kirstie Meehan with your name, organisation and contact details to reserve your place: [log in to unmask]
