We are seeking a talented and motivated early stage postdoctoral researcher with skills in image analysis to join the Biocomputing Team at the MRC Harwell Institute. You will be part of a team that is developing and applying techniques to automate image analysis and annotation. You will be based in the UK but part of an international collaboration.
The Biocomputing Team here develops computational methods to explore the large volumes of data generated by a number of large-scale projects such as the International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium (www.mousephenotye.org) and disseminates the results to the wider scientific community (see Hrabé de Angelis et al, Nature Genetics 2015 47(9):969-78 and Yaikhom et al, Nature Methods 2015 12(8):698-9). In order for our data to be informative, it is essential that it is effectively assessed and managed before being made publicly available.
The Bioimage informatics team (part of Biocomputing) seeks to automate the annotation of morphological phenotypes from mouse embryos imaged using technologies such as micro-CT and optical projection tomography (OPT). This will be achieved through image registration and developing voxel, volume and shape analysis toolkits. In addition, you will be expected to explore different ways of presenting data visualisations online and to a variety of audience including clinical scientists. The IMPC and our collaborators are generating large volumes of image data for several hundred knockout lines over the next four years. The phenotypic data generated in this area will feed into other large-scale data analysis projects within Biocomputing research group.
This is a major opportunity to extract scientifically useful information from large, rich and diverse datasets and the communication of these results to the wider scientific community. You will join a large research team working in the analysis of large-scale mouse phenotyping data, the analysis of omics data and 3D systems imaging, so you would join an exciting and dynamic team who work closely together.
To join us, you will need:
. A PhD in an appropriate discipline (or in the final stages)
. Experience in image analysis, data analysis and machine learning
. A sound understanding of statistical concepts
. Excellent skills in programming, one of Python, Perl, C/C++, Java
. Track record of writing papers as evidenced by publications or submitted manuscripts in high quality journals
. A willingness to travel and present work
The post is funded by the NIH to support early-stage post-doctoral training. During the fellowship tenure we are committed to provide mentorship for career development and improvement of communication skills.
