Hi Andrew
I agree- it is getting to be very difficult as the publishers are being very clever. There is another site where there is help https://doaj.org/
They apply strict criteria around peer review etc and this can be a source of open access journals to target as well as check validity. The journal you mention below is available on this site and therefore meets their criteria
Best wishes
Jenny

Thanks Jenny.
With the explosion of duff journals and conferences this is a worrying development.
The reason I was asking today is because I'm trying to trace the provenance of the Journal of Educational Evaluation for Health Professions, which a student has just used. The journal is in its 14th volume (it says), so it's not part of the very recent explosion, and the article in questions looks reasonable. The general info on the journal website looks very generic, however.
We just need to be vigilant.
Regards,
Andrew

Hello Andrew
Jeffrey Beall stopped doing this in January- I am not sure why if there was some pressure from somewhere though it is suggested https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2017/01/18/librarians-list-predatory-journals-reportedly-removed-due-threats-and-politics
https://predatoryjournals.com/update/2017/01/24/welcome-to-predatory-journals.html
Some info is now on this site.

The link for Beall's list seems to have gone dead: it brings up the message "Not Found - Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn't here"
Is anyone aware of where this has gone? It's something we need to be checking all the time.

Yes indeed, here's the link that Jane was on about. The rise in numbers is astounding and frightening.

Thanks Jane- getting very frustrated at the number of fake conferences coming through as well. It's becoming a trend and need to advise caution!
Best wishes
