The DPC’s hugely popular ‘Procuring Digital Preservation’ event is making a return on Tuesday 21st March with a Briefing Day at the National Records of Scotland, Edinburgh and the full programme has just been published.<http://www.dpconline.org/events/briefing-day/procuring-digital-preservation>
Founder of Inforesight Limited, Marc Fresko, will introduce a packed programme by drawing from his own extensive experience to outline the procurement process as a whole and share lessons learned. Marc is a highly-experienced consultant, having provided consultancy services on information and electronic records management since 1979.
DPC members Chris Fryer - Parliamentary Archives, Lee Hibberd – National Library of Scotland and Claire Tunstall – Unilever, will each examine different aspects of the procurement process from internal advocacy to implementation, illustrating the discussion with case studies of their own work. And the University of Oxford Bodleian Libraries’ Neil Jefferies will provide us with an alternative to procuring an out-of-the-box solution in his session on ‘DIY DP.’
The afternoon will see the procurement process presented from a different perspective, with the DPC’s Commercial Supporters Arkivum and Preservica explaining ‘What makes a supplier happy?’
This day-long session will be wrapped up by The National Records of Scotland’s Tim Gollins who will remind us of the importance of communication throughout the procurement process.
The briefing day will provide a neutral forum where those involved in procuring digital preservation solutions can talk directly and without prejudice about the challenges they face. The dialogue that results aims to clarify the process of requirements gathering and lower the barriers to effective procurement.
Registration is free for DPC members and are £275 for non-members. Places are strictly limited and should be booked in advance. Registration will close one week before the event and early booking is recommended as we expect the day to be popular.
