The Queen Mary University of London's Pro Bono Society, invites you to the forthcoming documentary screening and panel:
Re-centralising the migrant debate around human rights: the Global compact on refugees and migrants
This event will explore attempts at the international level to reconfigure refugee and migrant protection around human rights law. We will be screening a short documentary on refugees in the UK called EveryDay Borders which discusses the legal limbo many migrants are placed in when they enter the UK and the barriers to their human rights they encounter.
After the documentary, we will have a panel discussion on these issues: the human rights of refugees and migrants, how the legal systems / governments in country often ignores these and the potential role of the global compact to re-centralise the debate around migrants rights.
Speaker(s):
The panel will consist of Professor Elspeth Guild, from Queen Mary, Stefanie Grant from Centre for Human Rights at LSE, David Cantor from the Refugee Law Initiative (TBC), and the documentary producer Dr Georgie Wemyss.
Date: Monday 8 March 2017, 6.00 pm - 8.00pm
Venue: Bancroft 1.13, Queen Mary University of London, Mile End Road, London
