Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland
Email: [log in to unmask]

The School of Sociology and Applied Social Studies at Ulster University is seeking suitably qualified academics to appoint as external examiners for their 2 year (Fast Track) BSc (Hons) Social Work Degree Programme.

The ‘Fast Track’ degree programme is for graduates with an existing qualification in a cognisant area, and is premised on the relevant graduate qualities of the applicant in meeting the demands of this accelerated learning programme, most of our students already have a degree in an area such as Law, Sociology, Psychology or Applied Health. The approximate annual intake for the programme is 45 students. The 1st semester of both years is within the University, and the 2nd semester comprises placement within a voluntary or statutory Social Work agency.

This is an established Social Work Programme which is recognised by the Northern Ireland Social Care Council as the professional qualification for social workers in Northern Ireland. We have a diverse and friendly staff team and student group, strong links with local practice partners, and the involvement of service users and carers in teaching, assessment and evaluation.

The external examiner will work with another experienced examiner in this generic full-time 2 year undergraduate programme that leads to the qualification of BSc (Hons) in Social Work. Appointment will commence from September 2017 for a tenure of 4 years (until August 2021).

The course is based in the Ulster University at Magee, in the historic walled city of Derry/Londonderry, close to the border with Donegal. Magee was established in 1865 and currently hosts 6,000 students. Derry is the second largest city in Northern Ireland, and was the inaugural UK City of Culture in 2013.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced social work academic staff who are registered with the relevant regulatory Social Work body.
