For those working towards an application for Archive Service Accreditation, we have some upcoming training and advice opportunities:
* One-to-one telephone advice surgeries are bookable with the Accreditation team at The National Archives on 16 March. Surgeries run for up to 30 minutes, and are a chance to ask detailed questions or to get advice on your overall approach and the timetabling of an application. To book a surgery, please email [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> stating your preferred time.
* ARA London are hosting an introductory workshop for applicants on the afternoon of 21 March at the Theatres Trust Resource Centre, Charing Cross Road - for a full overview of the programme and a chance to engage with some perhaps less familiar elements of the Standard. Please book this workshop through ARA Office, details and further information here: http://www.archives.org.uk/events/viewevent/435-archive-service-accreditation-an-introduction-for-applicants.html.
(Access note: Please note that this workshop is on the first floor of the building, and that there are three steps up to the small lift. If you are unable to attend the workshop because of access requirements, we will be happy to arrange an alternative means of support for your application.)
* ARA North West are hosting a further workshop for applicants on 17 May at Liverpool John Moores University, including an opportunity to encounter LJMU Special Collections during lunchtime with Valerie Stevenson, Head of Academic Services. To book this workshop, please contact Jane Speller: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. This workshop will be designed to meet the specific interests of those attending.
If none of these options works for you, we will be scheduling more surgeries later in the year and will run additional workshops to meet clusters of need. Do contact [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> if you would like to discuss this.
For those planning in the longer term, a reminder that 2017-18 is the last year for the initial rollout of Archive Service Accreditation. Some updates, particularly on management of born-digital records, will be made in 2018, as the programme reaches its fifth anniversary. There will be a pause in applications in spring 2018 to allow for these updates. We will share more details on this as soon as they are available.
Information about applying for Archive Service Accreditation is available here http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-sector/archive-service-accreditation/applying-for-archive-service-accreditation/. Dates for the next Archive Service Accreditation Panels are published to help with planning your application timings: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-sector/archive-service-accreditation/award-of-archive-service-accreditation/. There will be a further Panel in mid March 2018, exact date tbc. If you have not already done so, please contact your relevant home nations assessor body to let them know your plans for an application: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-sector/archive-service-accreditation/applying-for-archive-service-accreditation/.
Best wishes,
