Dear List members,
I am new in post within a School Archive and we are currently tackling the issue of storage for the archive. Our existing storage is full and, unfortunately, potentially structurally unsound.
I am looking into options onsite, however my colleagues in Estates have recommended transferring non-priority archives to an external company (for example, Big Yellow Storage); I should also note that the archive is uncatalogued which will make identifying "non-priority records" challenging. Although I am open to offsite storage I am less than keen to follow through with a non-specialist storage company and would appreciate any advice from archivists who have dealt with / are tackling similar situations.
In particular I would welcome recommendations of trusted companies and any solutions that other organisations have reached when faced with limited or compromised onsite storage.
Please reply off-list and I am happy to summarise responses!
Kind regards,
Rachael Merrison
Records & Heritage Manager
