*Südosteuropa: Journal of Politics and Society* invites original papers for
a special issue on cities and urban ethnography in Southeastern Europe,
edited by Ger Duijzings. It will be published at the end of the year (issue
2017/4), as the first part of a series of ethnography-based special issues
of this journal, one of the leading interdisciplinary and peer-reviewed
academic journals in Southeast European Studies. The journal explores
critical issues and societal processes in contemporary Southeastern Europe,
and serves as a platform for current work in Political Science, Sociology,
International Relations, Contemporary History, Economics, Anthropology, Law
Studies, Gender Studies as well as Cultural Studies.
The aim of the special issue is to demonstrate the methodological and
empirical strengths of urban ethnography. Contributions should be embedded
in concrete sites, providing ethnographic vignettes of particular cities
and urban themes. Written in an engaging and accessible style, they will
target the interdisciplinary readership of the journal, and offer
reflections on ‘the urban condition’ and ‘ethnography’, as well as on the
methods used. The idea is to provide a broad palette of urban themes, with
good and accessible ethnography being the binding element.
We welcome comparative perspectives towards adjacent regions as well as
analyses and theoretical issues with implications for other world areas.
Manuscripts should be around 9000 words long, and the deadline is 22 May
2017. All manuscripts are subject to a process of double-blind
peer-reviewing. To express interest, or for more information or further
consultation please contact Ger Duijzings (on [log in to unmask] or ger
