We seek to recruit 2 talented biostatisticians/statistical epidemiologists at Research Assistant/Research Associate level. There are a number of short-term projects which would suit researchers interested in gaining academic experience in cardiovascular/methodological research. The projects would be in one of the following areas of research:
• Investigating the use of longitudinal risk predictors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk prediction and screening strategies (eg, using joint models and/or landmark models)
• Identifying potential causal metabolic markers of CVD or mediators of known CVD risk factors (eg, using Mendelian Randomization approaches)
Specialist knowledge/Experience:
• Experience of using joint models for the analysis of longitudinal and time-to-event data.
• Experience of using Mendelian Randomisation methods.
• Analysis of large, complex epidemiological datasets.
• A track record of authoring scientific publications.
The post-holder will have access to data in the Unit's extensive portfolio of studies, including the Emerging Risk Factors Collaboration that comprises >2.5 million participants in total and INTERVAL. In addition, the post holder will have the opportunity to collaborate with Dr Irene Petersen and colleagues at University College London (UCL) on the applications to The Health Improvement Network (THIN) which includes records from approximately 10 million people from 500 general practices in the UK.
The post holder will work in close conjunction with the senior biostatisticians and epidemiologists in Cambridge (eg, Dr Angela Wood, Professor Simon Thompson, Professor John Danesh, Dr Emanuele Di Angelantonio, Dr Jessica Barrett, Dr Stephen Burgess). He/she will also work closely with other members of the CEU and scientific collaborators based in other institutions.
Appointment at research associate is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience), including those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD. Where a PhD has yet to be awarded appointment will initially be made at research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded.
The funds for these posts are available for six months from commencement in the first instance.
