Which is one of reasons most Trusts will avoid POCT accreditation due to cost of "witnessed" competency with 2000 users..................
Q - how many trusts without witnessed competencies (after initial training) but locally accepted alternative process can point to significant clinical incidents which would have been prevented by witnessed competencies???

Hi Amy
We found that a practical demonstration of competency was required for our UKAS assessment last year. In addition to that, we also have to show that we have assessed the quality of the training and assessment undertaken by our cascade trainer.
I hope this is helpful

Subject: POCT Competency Assessment
Dear All,
I know this has probably been discussed here before, but what mechanisms do UKAS find acceptable for competency assessment of users of POCT?
We have a 'self-assessment' form for several devices, where we ask 'can you/do you' questions on key areas of knowledge that are simply answered yes or no. Is this acceptable?
I have seen other question and written answer/multiple choice formats used elsewhere. Should we be moving towards this?
Is a practical demonstration of competence required?
Thanks in advance,
Amy
