GIS and Remote Sensing Analyst
Ecometrica Ltd is recruiting a GIS analyst with expertise in disaster risk management and/or water management to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of GIS, Earth Observation, land use and web-mapping experts based in Edinburgh, UK. This position offers a unique and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, pro-active candidate with a good understanding of mapping and monitoring the natural environment, and associated risks and impacts. You will form part of a growing team engaged in forestry, agriculture, climate resilience and land use-related projects. You will also be actively involved in the development of client applications on Ecometrica’s cloud-based mapping platform.
We are seeking a solution-driven analyst who can translate client needs into a realistic project plan. You should be able to work accurately under pressure, both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Good communication and client-facing skills are important and you will be expected to be able to communicate to a non-technical audience.
We are offering a salary in the range £21K - £26K, depending on your level of experience.
Minimum requirements:
• Masters degree or similar postgraduate qualification or at least 2 years’ relevant work experience applying GIS and/or Earth Observation data and processing for the natural environment
• Proficiency in GIS software packages
• Solid understanding of EO applications in land use/forestry/agriculture/ecology/ water resources
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
• Fluent English language speaker and high quality of written English
• Ability for critical thinking and coherent argument
• Eligible to work in the UK
Skills and knowledge that are seen as an additional advantage:
• Knowledge of relevant forest, agriculture and extractive industry policies (REDD+, EU Biofuels Directive, Sustainability Standards, Supply Chain initiatives, Water Footprinting)
• Experience in the use of GIS and remote sensing applications for natural hazard assessment, disaster risk or water management in particular would be an advantage
• Experience of practical applications of earth observation / remote sensing in a developing country context
• Experience in providing GIS / EO skills training to end users
• Knowledge of statistics
• Experience with field work for remote sensing / mapping
• A second language, e.g. Spanish, Portuguese or French
