Paid employment with the Organic Research Centre?

Agroforestry Research Communicator

Grade 6 (£23,360 - £28,698). 
12 month contract in the first instance

The Organic Research Centre is looking to appoint an Agroforestry Research Communicator to work within the Agroforestry Programme on the European projects AGFORWARD, SustainFARM and AFINET (a European thematic network on agroforestry). The successful candidate will collate and prepare information for publication, such as factsheets, technical guides, bulletin articles, videos, webpages, website news items and press releases for a range of target audiences, including producers, advisors, researchers and policy-makers. S/he will be responsible for establishing new, and managing ongoing, social media accounts and postings, as well as organise farmer workshops and events for the Agroforestry Programme. S/he will also assist with data collection and research within the agroforestry projects. The post will report to the Principal Agroecology Researcher.

The candidate will possess a BSc (Grade 2.1 or above) in agriculture, biology or a related subject and excellent organisation and communication skills (oral, written and interpersonal). Experience with social media is vital as is breadth/depth of knowledge of agroforestry and sustainable farming in a research or technical context. A research communication and/or science/technical journalism background and producing publications for a range of target audiences, in particular farmers, is advantageous. The successful candidate will be based at the Organic Research Centre’s site near Newbury in Berkshire, but must be prepared to travel occasionally in the UK and to other EU countries.
