Have you confirmed that the values are not strictly 0/1 directly by loading the data in matlab and checking values, or are you just basing it on the display of the image in SPM. If the latter, SPM’s display function by default does some interpolation, so you will get values in the display that are not perfectly 0/1. You can set the interpolation to nearest neighbor and things will display in a binary fashion.
If it’s the former, then what commands did you use to construct your image?
