Yesterday
Yesterday I made a pretty picture,
bluebells & violets, in defiance
of repression & ugliness.
Then I made an ugly picture, dark
corners & red tears, in defiance
of shallow superficiality.
I made a political picture, women
& children of all colors, in defiance
of fascist oppression.
Then an abstract, geometrics
and fractals, in defiance
of aesthetic realism.
I took a photograph of winter
to underline what is real, &
tricked it up to fool the eye.
Then I cried myself to sleep.
