The Open University is hosting a new seminar series in 2017 on death and dying. It will show-case a variety of seminar styles, from traditional academic talks to interactive discussion sessions, all with the intent to get us to think about these issues differently and to see what is on the horizon in this field.
All seminars will be held at the Open University campus in Milton Keynes <http://www.open.ac.uk/about/main/faculties-centres/milton-keynes-campus>. Email [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> for the most up-to-date information (including room venue) and to register your interest. All seminars are from 1.30-3.30 pm each month and we hope to record each one. So far we have the following dates and speakers confirmed:
18 Jan 2017: Dr Zaman (University of Glasgow) <http://www.gla.ac.uk/schools/interdisciplinary/staff/shahaduzzaman/> - Common or multiple futures for end of life care interventions around the world? Ideas from 'Waiting Room of History'
21 Feb 2017 - Prof Davies (Durham University) <https://www.dur.ac.uk/theology.religion/staff/profile/?id=663> and Louise Winter (writer and founder of Poetic Endings) <https://twitter.com/poetic_endings>. Session about 'thinking about death differently' with Prof Davies talking about his pet death research and Louise Winter about her art exhibition Life. Death. Whatever.
21 March 2017: Dr Arolker (Heartlands NHS Trust) - Sedation near the end of life
18 April 2017: Dr Siassakos (University of Bristol) <http://www.bristol.ac.uk/clinical-sciences/people/dimitrios-siassakos/index.html> and Claire Storey (International Stillbirth Alliance) <http://stillbirthalliance.org/about-us/biographies/> - Session about stillbirth and neonatal death.
All welcome to attend.
Thanks for circulating.
